KTXT-TV is licensed to Texas Tech University and is required to process all positions with the Texas Tech
University personnel office. Texas Tech University (TTU) is the largest employer in Lubbock and the TTU website
is one of the first places all prospective employees check.
Position 1 – Master Control Operator/TV Broadcast Supervisor
This position is considered a Specialist III at TTU and the job had to be listed on all sites under this title. We listed
the title at TTU as Specialist III – TV Broadcast Supervisor. TV Broadcast Supervisor was the original title used
by TTU for this position and was a familiar one on campus. We decided to list the position on the Texas
Association of Broadcasters (TAB) web site as a Master Control Operator to help clarify the job and we included
instructions on how to find the job listing on the Texas Tech University Job Site. The job was first listed with TTU and
TAB on 07/28/05 and closed on 9/30/05 with an applicant pool of 9. The
Chief Engineer interviewed the top three applicants
and made a job offer to his first choice who turned it down. The
same thing happened with the other two interviewees.
Because all other applicants had been sent letters indicating
they were not being considered for the position,
the job had to be listed a second time for a new application pool.
The second listing was from 9/19/05 – 10/01/05.
There were only two applicants and both were interviewed.
Position 2 – Outreach Coordinator
This position was listed on the Texas Association of Broadcasters website as well as the
Texas Tech University
website as a Unit Manager – Educational Outreach on 8/27/05 and closed on 10/19/05. There were 24 applicants
that applied and the top 3 were interviewed. Two of the interviewees learned about the job through the
Texas Tech
University job line and the third learned about the job from a friend who saw the position listed on the TTU job line.
