A New Dimension in Childrens Television ![]() As a part of life on the South Plains for over forty years, we know our viewers--and our potential viewers. Through our new Ready To Learn initiative, we are becoming equipped to reach more families than ever before with educational services. We work with child care centers, public libraries, and social service agencies to touch the lives of our children. The PBS Ready To Learn service is not a short-term project. It is a permanent change in the way childrens programs are presented and utilized, tailored for our broadcast area. At KTXT-TV, our Ready To Learn service maintains popular programs, proven to benefit childrens learning, while introducing new dimensions to our role in the common community. Key elements include: Continued quality childrens programming for eight 1/2 hours each week-day. New series for preschoolers and older children are currently being developed and may be included in our program schedule to reinforce learning readiness skills. Value messages during program breaks, creating a seamless stretch of programming designed to enhance a childs problem-solving abilities and help shape a positive attitude toward learning. Messages will encourage children to go find out; try it out; ask for help; work it out; and stick to it. A services component to help our young viewers and their families/caregivers/teachers take full advantage of the educational and developmental concepts presented during programs. KTXT-TV hopes to serve as a catalyst, connecting parents and childcare providers with community services that foster readiness skills. One of our highest priorities is to reach the most vulnerable, at-risk families in our community with the hope and promise that the Ready To Learn initiative brings to them. |
