More programming choices
There is a potential for multicasting (dividing the signals into 4 or more channels of better quality than current resolution) during daytime hours. Each could have a special emphasis: how-to programs; children's educational; adult educational; community/university focus or such.

Interactive on-screen options
Viewers can simultaneously watch a program, visit a web site, play a card game and order a pizza by using the hand-held control. Digital television is the merging of the television and the computer; but you can still choose to just watch TV.
